Check punch locations with a geofence
Turn on the work-site check in a rule set to flag or refuse punches made outside a site's radius, and read the distance on each punch.
A geofence check compares where a staff member punched with the work sites of their branch.
Before you start
Add your work sites with a latitude, a longitude and a radius.
Turn on the check
- Go to Attendance → Rule sets.
- Select Edit on a rule set, or start a New rule set.
- Under Location, choose the Work-site check. See the table below.
- Optionally set Worst accepted accuracy (metres). A phone that reports a worse accuracy than this cannot prove where it is.
- Select Save.
| Work-site check | What happens to a punch from outside every site |
|---|---|
| Off | No check |
| Allow and flag outside punches | Accepted, and flagged as outside |
| Refuse punches outside the site | Refused: the staff member cannot punch |
When the check is on, staff are asked to share their location each time they punch. Staff on the Staff punch with location mode share it too.
What staff see
The punch button says that their location is checked against their work site. If they block location in the browser, the punch stops and asks them to allow it.
Note: Punching from a browser does not take a photo, and there is no selfie mode to choose. A rule set or staff profile saved with the selfie mode before shows "(selfie not available)" and works like Staff punch with location.
What you see
Open Attendance, select More on a row and open Logs. Each punch with a location shows its coordinates and the distance in metres from the site. Punches outside the site are flagged.
Questions
Does X follow staff around during the day?
No. X reads a location only at the moment a staff member punches, and only when the rule set asks for it.
Which sites does a punch count against?
The sites of the staff member's branch. A rule set can also be assigned to one work site.
