Run payroll for a month
Start a month's pay run, compute every staff member's pay from attendance and salaries, and move the run to review before you finalise it.
On this page
A pay run covers one pay period for the whole business: compute, review, finalise, then record payments.
Before you start
- Every staff member to be paid has a salary. See Set a staff member's salary.
- Attendance for the period is marked. Unmarked days show as a warning, and unless payroll counts them as absent, the person is put on hold.
- Statutory registrations are added. See Add statutory registrations.
Start the run
- Go to Payroll.
- Choose the Month. Before a run exists, the page shows an estimate for the month and anything that Needs attention.
- Select Start the month pay run, for example "Start the October 2026 pay run". If a run exists, select Open the month pay run instead.
Compute
- On the pay run page, select Compute.
- Wait for the status to change from Computing to In review. Large runs take a little longer.
The tiles show Staff, Gross, Deductions, Net pay, Employer cost and On hold. Staff in this run lists each person with their Paid days, LOP, Gross, Deductions, Net pay and Status.
If you change attendance, salaries or settings while the run is in review, select Compute again.
You need the Run payroll permission.
Cancel a run
While a run is not final, you can cancel it: type Why cancel and select Cancel the run.
Next
Review the run, then finalise it.
Questions
Does X pay my staff?
No. X works out pay and keeps a record of what you paid. You pay staff yourself, by bank transfer, UPI, cash or cheque.
Can I run payroll for one branch only?
No. A pay run covers the whole business. You can hold a person's pay to leave them out, but held pay is not carried to a later run, so record it as a payment when you settle it.
