The sandwich rule
How X counts weekly offs and holidays that fall between leave days or between absences, with the two separate sandwich switches.
The sandwich rule decides what happens to an off day that sits between two days of leave or absence. X has two separate switches for it.
For leave: in the leave policy
Count weekly offs and holidays between leave days (sandwich) is in each leave policy.
- Off: weekly offs and holidays inside a leave request are skipped. They do not use leave.
- On: weekly offs and holidays that fall between two leave days of the same request count as leave. Off days at the start or end of the request still do not count.
Example
Leave from Friday to Monday, with Sunday as the weekly off:
| Sandwich | Days counted | Leave used |
|---|---|---|
| Off | Friday, Saturday, Monday | 3 |
| On | Friday to Monday | 4 |
When staff select Check days on My leave, X shows how many days are counted and how many weekly offs or holidays were not counted.
For absences: in the attendance rule set
Sandwich rule: an off day between two absences is unpaid is in each attendance rule set. When it is on, a weekly off or holiday becomes unpaid if the person was absent on both sides of it.
This affects pay, not leave balances. See Set up an attendance rule set.
