Create a leave policy
Set how many days of each leave type staff get a year, how they are credited, carry forward, half days and negative balances, then assign the policy.
A leave policy says how much leave of each paid type staff get, and how it behaves.
Create a policy
- Go to Leave → Policies and types.
- Under New leave policy, enter the Policy name.
- Choose the Policy cycle and the month the Leave year starts in, for example January or April.
- In the table, tick each leave type the policy includes, and fill in its row:

| Credited | Monthly, All at once or Not credited |
| Carry forward up to | The most unused days to move into the next leave year. Not applied by itself: see carry forward |
| Half day | Whether half days are allowed under this policy |
| Negative balance | Whether staff may go below zero |
| Encashable | Marks the type as one you may pay out. X has no encashment step: pay it as a one-time earning |
- Turn on Count weekly offs and holidays between leave days (sandwich) if you use the sandwich rule. See The sandwich rule.
- Tick Default for staff without an assignment to make it the business default.
