Change your password and details
Update your name, change your login email with a code to your current login and one to the new address, and change or set your password from My account.
On this page
Go to Settings → My account. These are details of your login, not of a staff record.
Staff who use only self-service do not have this page. To set a new password, they use Forgot your password? on the log-in page. See Log in and reset your password.
Your details
- Under Your details, change Your name.
- Select Save changes.
The page shows your Email with Email verified or Email not verified. Your verified email is your login. It cannot be typed over here; change it under Login email.
Your Mobile number cannot be changed here. You do not log in with it: logging in with a phone needs a verified phone, and verifying a phone needs SMS, which is not set up.
Change your login email
First X checks that it is you, with a code to the email you log in with today.
- Under Login email, select Send code. X sends a 6-digit code to your current verified email. If you have no verified email, the code goes to your verified mobile number.
- Type that code. Then type the New email and, if your account has a password, your Current password.
- Select Send code to the new email. X sends a second 6-digit code, this time to the new address. Each code expires in 5 minutes.
- Type the second code and select Verify and change.
If you mistype the new email or the password, fix it and send again: you do not need a new code for your current email for the next 10 minutes.
Your current email keeps working until you enter the second code. After that:
- You log in and reset your password with the new email only. The page shows it as Email verified.
- X signs out all your other sessions and phones. The one you are using stays signed in.
- X sends a message to your previous email to say the login email was changed. If you get that message and did not make the change, contact X support straight away.
To send the code to another address, select Use a different email.
If the new email is already the login of another account, X tells you after you enter the code, and nothing changes.
If your email shows Email not verified and you have no verified mobile number, there is nothing to send the first code to. Type the New email and your Current password, and X sends the code straight to the new address. To verify the email you already have, type that same email as the New email. It then shows Email verified.
Sending the code needs email to be set up for X. When it is not, Login email says so and your email stays as it is.
Change your password
- Under Password, type your Current password.
- Type a New password of at least 8 characters. Avoid common words and your phone number.
- Select Change password.
X confirms the change and signs out all your other sessions and phones. The one you are using stays signed in.
Set a password for the first time
If you created your account with codes only, it has no password yet. First X checks that it is you, with a code to the email you log in with today.
- Under Password, select Send code. X sends a 6-digit code to your current verified email. If you have no verified email, the code goes to your verified mobile number. The code expires in 5 minutes.
- Type that code and a New password of at least 8 characters.
- Select Set password.
If the password is refused (too short or too common), choose another and select Set password again: you do not need a new code for the next 10 minutes.
X confirms it and signs out all your other sessions and phones. The one you are using stays signed in. From then on you can also log in with your email and this password.
If your email shows Email not verified and you have no verified mobile number, there is nothing to send the code to. Type the New password and select Set password.
Sending the code needs codes to be set up for X. When they are not, Password says so.
