Professional Tax and labour welfare fund
How Professional Tax and the labour welfare fund follow each branch's state, what to register, and what the warnings about slabs and rates mean.
On this page
Professional Tax (PT) and the labour welfare fund (LWF) are set by each state, so they follow the state of the staff member's branch.
Set it up
- Give each branch the right State in Settings → Branches. See Add branches.
- Add a Professional Tax and a Labour Welfare Fund registration for each state where you have one. See Add statutory registrations.
- Check the components: each one says whether it Counts for Professional Tax and Counts for LWF.
- On staff profiles, keep Professional tax and Labour welfare fund ticked under Eligibility for those covered.
How it is worked out
- Professional Tax: the state's slab for the person's pay that month. In Tamil Nadu and Kerala it depends on the local body, so enter the Local body code in the registration.
- LWF: the state's employee and employer amounts, in the months the state collects them.
Warnings you may see
- No Professional Tax slab for this wage: the state's slabs on file do not cover this pay. This warning is blocking, so the person is put on hold in the pay run. Tell support.
- No rates on file for this state: X has no PT or LWF data for that state, so nothing is computed there.
- Not available yet: data pending verification: the state's rates are on file but wait for official confirmation.
Some states do not levy PT or LWF at all.
