Create a shift
Set a shift's start and end, its break, the minutes for a full and a half day and the punch window, including night shifts that end the next day.
A shift sets the working hours that attendance is measured against: when work starts and ends, the break, and how many minutes make a full or a half day.
Add a shift
- Go to Shifts.
- Under New shift, choose the Shift type: Fixed shifts, Flexible shifts or Open shifts.
- Enter the Name and, if you like, a Short code for the roster.
- Enter the Start and End times.
- Enter the Break (minutes). Turn on Break is paid if the break counts as work.
- Optionally set Minutes for a full day and Minutes for a half day. Leave the full day empty to use the shift length minus the unpaid break.
- Optionally set Earliest punch-in (minutes before start) and Latest punch-out (minutes after end): the window in which punches count for this shift.
- Select Save.
You need the Set up shifts and attendance rules permission.
Night shifts
A shift may end after midnight, for example 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. The list then says Ends the next day. The whole shift belongs to the day it started.
Change or delete a shift
Select Edit on the shift, change it and select Save. Select Delete to remove a shift you no longer use.
Each shift in the list shows its times, the number of staff assigned, the break and the minutes for a full day.
Next step
Assign the shift to the people who work it.
