Built-in roles
What the Owner, Admin, Branch manager, Attendance manager, Payroll manager, Accountant, Staff and Field staff roles can see and do.
On this page
Every business starts with eight roles. Roles decide what each member can see and do, and every permission applies within the member's branches.
The roles
| Role | Made for |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything, including billing and deleting the business. The owner role cannot be changed |
| Admin | Everything except billing, deleting the business and exporting all business data |
| Branch manager | Staff, attendance, roster, leave approvals and reports for the branches they are given |
| Attendance manager | Attendance, roster, shifts, rules, leave approvals and leave set-up, plus attendance reports |
| Payroll manager | Salaries, payroll runs, payments, payslips, statutory items, and staff bank and PAN details |
| Accountant | Read-only: staff, attendance, leave, salaries, payroll, payslips, statutory dues and reports |
| Staff | Self-service only: their own attendance, leave, payslips and profile |
| Field staff | The same as Staff today |
A few details
- Owners, admins, payroll managers and accountants can see bank, PAN and personal details. Only owners, admins and payroll managers can change them.
- The Attendance manager and the Payroll manager can change settings that apply to the whole business only when they cover all branches.
- Staff do not need a role from Admins and members. They get self-service access when you invite them from their staff profile.
Change a built-in role
Go to Roles, select the role, tick or clear permissions and select Save role. A built-in role cannot be deleted. See Create a custom role.

Create a custom role
Build a role from exactly the permissions a person needs, such as a supervisor who marks attendance but cannot see salaries.
Limit a member to some branches
Give a manager access to only the branches they run, so they see and change only those staff, their attendance, leave and reports.
Invite admins and managers
Invite the people who help run your business, give each a role and the branches they can see, and suspend or remove them later.
